Lack of Civility

An introductory question to a Sunday School lesson that I am preparing involved asking the following:
What is the biggest challenge Christians face as they seek to have a godly impact on society?

There are many appropriate answers to this question, one of which came to mind is the general lack of civility in today's world. On googling this topic, I came across a very interesting page that describes the exercise of a schoolboy in ~1748. The student had to transcribe a list of 110 rules of civility. The student in question was George Washington. Reading the list is quite interesting and will certainly make you realize how much things have changed regarding civil expectations. For example, #7 has been severely lost!

Click on George to jump to the list for your own reading pleasure.

Indeed! There have been times that I am still shocked even when I have prepared myself ahead of time to face "the lack of civility" in certain circumstances. Maybe that shouldn't be so shocking after all.
