'Behind' in Our Baby Z Updates

April and May have been busy months. Aren't they all? We visited M's family in April and The Mrs.'s family in May. The picture of Baby Z has a guest link to those pictures.

He did really well on the flights to and from Texas to go visit family. The first 2 legs on the way down he napped during most of both of them and most of one leg on the way back. The one leg of one flight on the way back that he was awake some part of we got lots of comments from people after getting off the plane about what a good baby he was! I guess people expect babies to scream and run around during flights. I know that was my fear!

Baby Z is now 29.5 inches long or really more like tall since he stands all the time. He is still about 20 lbs. He has 2 bottom teeth and 4 top teeth (2 are still growing all the way in). It's amazing a child with soo many teeth can still gag himself on baby food without lumps. I'm hoping this is just a result from his most recent illness - maybe a sore throat - and he will return to not gagging soon.

He can wave Hi now and really likes all the praise and attention that goes along with it when he does this. He's also been shaking his head from side to side - like you are saying no with your head. I wondered why he was doing this and then imagine my surprise when I found myself shaking my head from side to side as I told him no. What other quirks of mine is this child going to pick up???

He is developing quite the sense of humor too. I found out one day accidentally while using my elbow to hold his diaper over him while I threw something else away – that this tickles him. You don’t even have to touch him with your elbow, just waving it in front of him causes him to shriek and start laughing. Someone knocking on something hard when he can’t see them doing this is apparently hilarious too!

He’s not walking yet, but he continues to creep along the front edge of the furniture while standing. I think the longest period of time we have seen him stand without his hands on anything was about 3-4 seconds. He was using a really wide stance then so that probably helped him out. You can definitely tell that his balance has gotten better by the lessening of weight he puts on your hands when you hold his and walk him around – he feels soo much lighter. He 's taken many one step daring moves in his Living Room play area from one furniture piece to another. He has also taken a two step stroll from the corner of the recliner to the corner of the couch.

Z got his first haircut too! It wasn’t really a full fledged hair cut and mommy did it at home. It was more like just trimming the few stray hairs around his ears that were twice as long as the rest of them. I think the 6-10 hairs that were longer around his ears were tickling him, because he would kind of grab at them some. There was one side of the back of his hair that was also a little thicker and all more one length. Dada said something about it looking like a mullet so I got out the scissors the next day. I just slightly trimmed and layered it to make it more even looking. I didn’t cut anything on the top either.

Z continues to try to imitate our words we say to him and pictures we point out. He was really close to saying something that sounded like ‘dog’ and was definitely trying. He also tries saying cat, chicken, frog, bird, duck, etc… Generally he seems to have to be in the right mood for trying to repeat you otherwise he’ll just crawl off and go exploring. He still loves books – sitting and looking at them, having them read to him, and tasting them. He still easily says Dada and if not too distracted by whatever he is doing when M comes home, crawls to meet him or at least gets a big grin and makes his happy ‘hmmmmm’ noise. He's still not saying anything that sounds like Momma and when I try to get him to say it he usually says "Dada" very loudly and clearly. Today he even shook his head no after I said Momma and then said Dada. Oh Well. I guess he's a Daddy's boy!

Ok, first-what's wrong with having a mullet hairstyle? :) Secondly, Luke still is gagging when he eats food with lumps in it. The doctor told me that it was because his tonsils were bigger than what they were supposed to be at his age. So we keep trying everyday and everytime he gags and food comes spewing out. Just thought I would pass it on. miss you all.
