for family and friends:
We had our first required classes to proceed with the adoption this past weekend. They were really good and informative.
We love our social worker, Katie. She will come to our home for the first of 2 homestudy visits on Tuesday, Sept 19th. We are the only family she is working with this time, because she is due with her 2nd child at the end of Oct. She thinks she will actually deliver early so she is really pushing us to get our paperwork done. It sounds like a lot of pressure, but it really better for us. I think we both prefer known "deadlines".
After we get all our paperwork done and their office receives everything, then Katie will finish stuff up and get us approved! That means that we will be available to be circulated to birthmothers although at the bottom of the list since newest approved. After that it could be anytime, depending on what kind of family she wants her child to be raised in and how specific her desires for that family are. Most likely it will be at least a year.
It's slightly funny how many people (not us!) seem panicked when we tell them about the process. Their questions are usually, How old will the baby be? Will you know the sex? How much notice will you have? How do you prepare for soo many variables?
We know God is in control and the child he has always intended to be a part of our family will join us. We don't know when, how, where, who they will be, or what circumstances will present themselves, we just have to trust in God's goodness.
